Island

I'm not an "Island" kind of person... I'd hate to be one one today and I hope my fellow Texans in Galveston and other coastal sities get out safe and alive. Here is the best I can come up with at this juncture, a pumpkinhead (I should have put wings on him!) fairy-thing riding a snail on a beach. Boy, he needs to pick up some speed!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and week! John

Wonderful image. Love the pumpkin and snail. I live in central Mississippi. I was emotional back then about my people on the Gulf Coast. I cried today, remembering the destruction when I heard that Ike would be even more of a disaster possibly. God bless them all. I'm in the mood to do a hurricane piece as well. SSL.

Hello John,
I tired to e-mail you on your question regarding Protestant churches, but your e-mail link does not work. Anyway heres my answer to your question on the banning of images and the early Protestant churches.

I was going back in history to the Reformation I should have been more specific on James blog.

The early Protestant churches in Northern Europe destroyed art related the Roman Catholic Church.
In the early years of the reformation this was common and all religious art was banned.

They looked at it as part of the corrupt nature of the Roman Catholic Church.
This one of the reasons that Dutch and German painters started to paint still lives, landscapes and portraits instead of religious paintings.

The Flemish were under Spanish rule during much of this time and they remained for the most part Catholic.

In the early years after the Reformation a lot of churches had bare walls.

The Pilgrims are a good example they banned all images of Christ and art in general.

Today you can find this in Scotland Protestant churches called the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland, or as they are called in Scotland, the 'Wee Wee Frees' and the Free Church of Scotland the 'Wee Frees'.
They ban all images and their churches are bare white walls in some of the churches.

Look up John Knox and his decrees from 1560.
